I agree with Vaush that meat should be banned. I agree with him that we need systemic change.

But I don't agree with his claim that veganism is just "performative". No component of vegan ethics suggests that we need to prioritize individual action at the expense of collective action. Both are important. Collective action can't happen without some form of individual change. People who are hooked on meat aren't likely going to vote to ban meat, and there is no way we are banning animal meat if people don't already agree with our ethics.

Imagine living in a society where child pornography was legal. We live in a culture that greatly sexualizes children. Nearly everyone around us purchases and consumes child porn. Would it be "performative" to refuse to partake in this form of pornography consumption?

I have heard Vaush claim we currently have no moral obligation as individuals to remove animal meat from our diets. One of the excuses he has made is that all consumption under capitalism is unethical. But does this make all consumption under capitalism (including child porn) equally unethical? Is purchasing child porn no different than picking up some broccoli at the supermarket?

I appreciate his enthusiasm to ban meat, but he isn't free of criticism. We need to be educating people if we are going to push for systemic change. Telling vegans to shut up and stay silent runs contrary to that goal.
