There was a GoFundMe page for Brooks, claiming that he, basically, is a victim of a “racist” society, and that’s why he ran all those people down.

At least in NY State, he would only have to raise $500,000. The rest would be in a bond.

That would be the premium for a bondsman, but he wouldn't get it back at the end of the trial, they get to keep that 10% for their trouble of guaranteeing your appearance.
