No way. No matter what happened at the beginning, once in the wild, only the laws of Nature matter.
And emidemology of something new, without heavy lockdowns, is always full of unknowns.

You have ignored: "We don't need additional GoF viruses."
While I don't know absolutely, I am totally convince, at this stage, that the original Wuhan coronavirus was manmade through GoF manipulation.

While the Chinese military may have been the biggest contributor to this tragedy, fauci's funding to the Wuhan lab assisted in the deaths of over 5 million people and counting.

Let us not give fauci an additional opportunity to involve himself in GoF research.
Why this man hasn't been sacked can only be explained (to me) through political interference.

Stocks slide after Moderna CEO says vaccines may not work as well against Omicron

Quote:
Stock markets slumped on Tuesday after the head of Moderna said existing COVID-19 vaccines may not be as effective against the Omicron variant appearing in a growing number of countries around the world.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped nearly 600 points, or 1.7%, to 34,536 in early afternoon trading. The index has declined 5.2% from its record peak of more than 36,000, reached earlier this month. Other indices also slumped on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 slipping 1.6% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq declining 1.7%.

Investors were spooked by Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel's comments to the Financial Times about the new variant, given its potential to create headwinds for the global economic recovery.

At the same time, investors were also digesting comments from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, who testified on Tuesday at the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. Powell said the Omicron variant as posing "downside risks to employment and economic activity and increased uncertainty for inflation."

He added, "Greater concerns about the virus could reduce people's willingness to work in person, which would slow progress in the labor market and intensify supply-chain disruptions."

ancel told the FT that it's likely the current group of vaccines to protect against COVID-19 may need modification due to Omicron's high number of mutations.

Omicron COVID variant was in Europe before South African scientists detected and flagged it to the world
Quote:
Dutch health authorities announced on Tuesday that they found the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus in cases dating back as long as 11 days, indicating that it was already spreading in western Europe before the first cases were identified in southern Africa. The RIVM health institute said it found Omicron in samples dating from November 19 and 23.

Those findings predate the positive cases found among passengers who came from South Africa last Friday and were tested at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport.

"It is not yet clear whether the people concerned [in the earlier cases] have also been to southern Africa," the RIVM said, adding that the individuals had been informed of their Omicron infections and that local health services had started contact tracing.

Belgium and Germany have also said that sample tests confirm the variant was in those countries before South African health officials alerted the world on November 24 to its existence.

The latest strategy to boost protection against Omicron is for early booster shots. Cutting time between 2nd shot and booster from 6 months to 3 months.

Meanwhile pharma companies need at least 100 days to generate a omicron specific vaccine,

In the meantime many people are awaiting with bated breath as their christmas holidays are on a knife's edge.

UK Government vaccine surveillance report week 43

This chart tells us absolutely nothing without the rest of the data, which can be found in the PDF you linked.

Among the unvaccinated who are 60 or older, 50.4% died within 28 days of positive test.
Among the fully vaccinated, ages 60+, 12.8% died.
Is my math correct? High school was a long time ago, and all my friends said that we would never use math in Real Life...

However, the data is also going to be skewed because, according to this PDF, over 90% of individuals over the age of 60 are fully vaccinated. When everyone has already been vaccinated, there are a lot less unvaccinated people available to die.

It's interesting to note that, by far, the largest spreaders of the virus appear to be unvaccinated individuals aged under 18, at 355K positive. (just for reference, less than 10% of that group are fully vaccinated)

Maybe people should, oh, I don't know...start wearing masks again?

Not yet, IIRC we still have...about six months to catch up!

U.S. confirms nation’s first case of omicron Covid variant in California

Quote:
White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said the individual, who was fully vaccinated, had just returned from traveling in South Africa to the San Francisco area on Nov. 22 and tested positive on Nov. 29.

“The individual is self quarantining and all close contacts have been contacted and all close contacts, thus far, have tested negative,” he announced at a White House press briefing providing more details of the case. “We feel good that this patient not only had mild symptoms, but actually the symptoms appear to be improving.”

The CDC said genomic sequencing was initially conducted at the University of California, San Francisco and confirmed by the CDC as the omicron variant.

The World Health Organization said on Wednesday that omicron has been reported in at least 23 countries.

What if?

-What if the Omicron virus is milder than Delta?
-What if Delta dies out because of Omicron?
-What if the Omicron was created as a result of unvaccinated people?

How ironic would that be?

Another theory I heard is that Deta and Omicron mutations are the result of mass vaccinations. In other words Covid is mutating to become more resistant to the vaccine.

This is what I was thinking to be honest. Spanish flu was over after about 18 months as it rapidly mutated into a mild strain. If anything, to many vaccines, especially people who don't need them, especially young and healthy people will probably slow down the inevitable process of covid becoming mild.

It's initially though it developed in a HIV positive, unvaccinated patient afterall. Sort of a hint from the scientific community if I ever seen one that a lack of vaccination can be of benefit. Incredibly ironic if it's the case but they're suspecting it.

It's not to say the vaccines don't have their place. If your vulnerable then they're a no brainer but for the life of me I can't fathom their benefit for young and healthy folk. I've been speaking to a doctor who specialises in this field (I'm friends with her) and even she can't see the point anymore.

I've said it before and I'll say it again on WP. Viruses need to do the rounds to become (or remain) relatively harmless.

Hmmm, for some reasons, they both emerged in places with very low vaccination rates...
Local hospital data here indicates Delta isn't overall milder than the previous variants - it's worse for younger people. Much more hospitalizations of small children, teenagers, pregnant women and generally 30-40yos since Delta became dominant.

Omicron is yet to be found out. As soulless as it sounds, you need many cases to see the general trend.

Flu viruses generally mutate super-rapidly, much faster than most other human viruses. That's why yearly updated flu shots are largely based on educated guessing - and that's why even the deadliest flu pandemics don't last more than about two years.

Exactly, and that's a significant concern even if one doesn't get severely ill while they're infected with COVID. Even if the initial infection is just a cold in terms of severity, just a cold that leaves you with bronchitis, brain fog and heart issues for the next year is a big deal.

But very rarely.
