After Boebert’s apology, Marjorie Taylor Greene attacks Ilhan Omar and the ‘Jihad Squad.’
Greene’s criticism comes after Colorado Republican Representative Lauren Boebert told supporters a false narrative about riding in an elevator with Omar at the Capitol, equating the Muslim lawmaker to a suicide bomber. Following widespread condemnation, Boebert apologized to the Muslim community.
Greene, on the other hand, appears to disagree with her Republican colleague’s reaction.
Never apologize to sympathizers of Islamic terrorists, communists, or others who use our tax dollars to fund murder.
@IlhanMN and the Jihad Squad are all of these things, and they don’t deserve an apology. https://t.co/GPjECyIQFu — @mtgreenee (Marjorie Taylor Greene) 27 November 2021 Greene’s message was shared by Arthur Schwartz, who said that “Boebert was wrong” and that Omar “simply wants to support terrorists with your money.”
After a video of her speaking at an event garnered widespread criticism, Boebert issued an apology to the Muslim community on Friday. Boebert tells a story about going into an elevator with Omar in the video.
“I look to my left, and there she is: Ilhan Omar,” she says. ‘Well, she doesn’t have a backpack,’ I explained. ‘I think we’ll be alright.’ Omar was quick to respond, claiming that the story was false.
Boebert eventually delivered a half-hearted apology, which many perceived as insincere.
“I apologize to anyone I hurt in the Muslim community with my remark on Rep. Omar. I’ve made contact with her office in order to speak with her directly. There are plenty to choose from. This is a condensed version of the information."
Kevin McCarthy's Statement on Lauren Boebert Doesn't Condemn Her Remarks
I talked to Congresswoman Lauren Boebert today," McCarthy said in a statement released Saturday. "She has apologized for what she said and has reached out to Congresswoman Omar to meet next week."
"I spoke with [Democratic House Majority Leader Steny] Hoyer today to facilitate that meeting so that Congress can get back to talking to each other and working on the challenges facing the American people," McCarthy added.
McCarthy's statement did not call out Boebert's remarks as "wrong or abhorrent or racist or Islamophobic," MSNBC host Yasmin Vossoughian noted in a Saturday broadcast.
Boebert's tweet marked one of the few times that she has ever apologized for remarks against a Democratic lawmaker. She had previously referred to Omar as a member of the "jihad squad." She has also claimed, without evidence, that Omar is in an incestuous marriage with her brother.

Saw this in some news clips on fb.
Wtf? How is this even real?
We're right next door, separated by a mere invisible line (and the world's longest roadblock), and I can't imagine anything like this happening in our nation's political scene. If it did, it'd be insta-political-suicide.
Wtf? How is this even real?

Not in the least.
Nor do any of the congress critters of either party.
I beg to differ. There are plenty of good Democrats and Republicans. It's just that the bad ones are getting all the attention, and making the news. Right now, that's more a problem for the right than it is for the left.

At the risk of invoking Godwin's law, the "good" republicans remind me of the German aristocracy in the early 1930s who thought that making an alliance with a populist leader and his followers would keep the socialists from taking power. ironically the populists took control in 1933 and history to some extent repeated itself in 2016 where the republican party was hijacked by wacko populists who are still in control.

In Canada, they would be dragged out back of the arena, have their jerseys pulled over their heads, get a beating and then be left with their bloody noses staining the zamboni’s snow piles.

Trump emboldened people.
Invoking Godwin's law don't be so sure it can not happen in Canada. Prior to Hitler Germany was known for its high culture. The Jews there were in a similar position in society as they are in America currently.

Actually, it was Germany's bourgeois big business and the military-industrial complex that thought they could keep control of Hitler. There was suspicion of Hitler as a rabble rouser among the hereditary aristocrats in Germany.

Yes that's correct, The German aristocratic class who controlled corporations/military arms production in Germany were more frightened of the German communist party who wanted to unionise labour and increase public ownership of private companies. Hitler's browshirts were basically used to destroy German labour unions so they did serve a purpose to the bourgeois class.
