Dead at the age of 98.

Who wudda thunk I’d be sorry to see his passing?

I never voted for him, but he always had my respect. R.I.P.

On board with their politics or not, these people are part of our history, and because things were less divisive in the old days, there will have been more moments we agreed with them. To me it’s also the loss of an era, when it seemed possible to reach agreements across the isle, and fewer politicians seemed to be batshit crazy. I don’t think the fact we realize now that we allowed income gaps to widen during that era changes my emotional reaction to the better sides of it. In a way, we were all idiots together.

I think of him as having been funny, except I’m not remembering instances. EDIT: just watched the Simpson’s video. Must have been unintentionally funny.

He lived a long life. Rest In Peace.

Yes I do. But not for politicians like Dole.

I actually knew him, as I had met with him several times over the years at different events. He was from my area of western Kansas. He was severely wounded in WWII in combat, where he lost the use of one of his hands. Bob did not look very good the last time I saw him in person six years ago and I had a bad feeling that I would not see him again after that. He did live a very long life from what he went through. R.I.P.

I never met him, but he seemed likeable as a person.  As a veteran, he commands my respect; but as a politician, maybe not so much.  At least he was not a member of the Clinton family.

Some will not like it, but he did help get the Americans With Disabilities Act passed. It was important to him to get that done. Remember, he lost the use of his right arm in Italy so he knew what it was like to have a disability. He also was a strong advocate for veterans issues.

Personally, away from politics, he was a down to earth farm boy from Kansas. R.I.P.

Dole made someone like Trump, or even someone like Mitch McConnell look like an abject Fascist.

Dole was a conservative---but he was a pragmatic conservative who didn't always let party loyalty determine his political convictions.

I'd certainly rather have a fellow like Dole as an "adversary" than someone like Trump. At least Dole had rationally-based views.

I absolutely LONG for the pre-Tea Party days! Reagan was a person who believed too much in the "trickle-down" economic philosophy---but, at least, he was a relatively rational person who believed, fundamentally, in the American system.

So did my parents. They weren't registered Republican voters, but had respect for Dole.

We obviously were too young to vote back in 1996, but when we watched debates between Dole and Bill Clinton,
my NT sister and I knew that Dole's wit easily matched Clinton's Southern charm.

Actually, at 55 I am an old enough coot to have voted against Dole!
