Can anyone suggest a good brand of guitar for an adult beginner?

I'd first have to ask how much money you have to spend.

Electric or acoustic?

If electric, I bought an Ibanez RG421EX recently and I love it. :) They have some cheaper guitars also for your budget.

If acoustic I'm not too sure... I owned a Taylor guitar before and it was really nice. I don't think you could get one within your budget though unless maybe you got a second hand one.

Ibanez and Schecter both have good entry level guitars. I've also consistently heard good things (both quality and customer support) about Rondo Music.
