This is why biological men are afraid of having children. You don't even have to have any significant amount of money to be trapped by 'the system' that oppresses biological men.

This must be 'the patriarchy' everyone is taking about?

Speaking as a father, if a guy makes a kid, then he needs to take responsibility for said kid. At least stick around for the child's sake.

While most men are capable of being fathers, fewer deserve to be called “daddy”. The problem of unpaid child support is the fathers’ fault, not the system’s.

If you father a child, support it. If you abdicate your parental responsibilities, you should also lose all rights to even communicate with the child.

1.8 million seems a bit much though. Let's be honest.

Depends…

How old is the child?

Does the child have any disabilities or chronic health issues?

What are the father’s assets and income?

Child support is usually starts with a minimum monthly payment, and then rises with the wealth — both real and potential — of the father. If, over the next 20 years, the father could potentially earn 18 million, then he could reasonably be expected to pay the 1.8 million and be done with it.

I think child support, overall net worth and especially assumed future net worth shouldn't be related. So long as a child has enough money to be taken care of adequately then that's all that's needed.

With an average bill (up to 21 years of age) of $85000 per year for two children, it's no surprise he's not paying anything. Someone, somewhere is clearly taking advantage of him and the courts have allowed it.

He isn't even making mega bucks. He's a scientist I believe so it might be reasonable to assume the 85k a year might be exceeding his entire annual pre tax salary.

If child support is to be taken seriously, it can at least be seriously calculated by someone impartial. This clearly hasn't happened here.
