Professors' have emotions too. They are human, just like any child growing up or any adult in existence. They often have deeper emotions than those that lower themselves to acts of cyber-bullying.

The more I read the article the less I am saddened by this.

Why?

Sounds like there's one less mentally disturbed bully in the world. :|

I can see why.

From the article:

Quote:
The right-wing professor had a history of making misogynistic and racist comments.

He once referred to transgender people as 'mentally ill' and mocked students who accused him of harassing them as 'weak pansies'.

Every signature on that pertition killed him. It is the price and responsibility we pay as individuals for questioning anothers rights to say things. Will we take the responsibility for our actions when we object and things go wrong?

Sounds like he can dish out abuse but can't even withstand criticism.

It is not exactly like that though.

It’s false to say trans people are “mentally ill.”

It’s sad the professor killed himself, and he didn’t deserve his fate…..but he shouldn’t have said those things.

So what exactly was problematic about the petition? Were the students unreasonable to not want to be taught by someone who openly espouses bigotry? I fail to see how their petition is unreasonable but his long history of espousing bigotry is fine.

It went beyond a petition.

It seems like they disagreed with him online and organized to ensure they wouldn't have to be subjected to him. I'm not sure either of those are the same as bullying. Facing backlash of the sort he encountered seems like the natural consequences of his own trolling and bullying.

If one walks around a room stomping on others toes one will eventually discover their presence in the room is unappreciated.

The professor killed himself. His death was by his choice and by his action alone. Sure, some weasely lawyer will find some way to argue a case for civil liability, but that is exactly what weasely lawyers are paid to do. No criminal act was involved that the professor himself did not also commit.

So let us see how this plays out in court, and not in the media or on social websites.
