Has anyone used this? I personally think Odysee is a rad' alternative to Youtube, which is a commercialised, censorship cesspit, as far as I am concerned.

I've used BitChute a handful of times, but have heard of Odysee and similar.

As 'rad' as these alternatives are, it's a question of if they'll have enough viewership or staying power to compete with or (dare I say) topple the oligarchs.

Yes, I am skeptical also.

But I have gotten rid of Youtube now for many reasons. Weirdos following me on there & also the corporate oligarchy that owns it. I still use it, just without an account, so that they cannot whore me out with their insidious capitalistic, money making techniques.

I am on YouTube, as it's linked to a GMail account for work/freelance purposes.

I use a plethora of browser extensions that block adverts and deny tracking requests, as well as regularly ensuring my data isn't logged and personalisation and similar are turned off.

I often browse it as a guest with such settings for a smoother experience anyway.

Sadly, it's their way of making a living though. Like the film industry, we have come full circle with oligarchy. An all or nothing approach to making money compromising morals and ethics.

I've been using Odysee quite a bit recently. There's a few people I watch regularly who have been using it enough for me to watch them regularly on Odysee instead of YouTube. I also tend to put my own videos there, including some which I don't put on YouTube.

I turned every tracking feature off in the gmail account I had. The figurative, final straw was when they removed some of my uploaded videos, claiming that they were propaganda, when in fact Alphabet (the parent company of Google) is the political fraudster corporation, pushing out propaganda (and censoring the truth).

It would be interesting to see your videos.

there's a documentary called "the cleaners" on the low-pay workers doing the censoring on facebook, where they talk about what kind of material gets uploaded, and what it does to the people whp have to watch it and decide whether it stays online or gets taken down.
the film features an interview with a young man describing how he can now tell from the edge of a throat-stump with what tool a person has been beheaded.
and it doesn't matter whether, thanks to blockchain, you can trace who uploaded the video, if the person in the video killed himself, or is an ISIS-terrorist living in a failed state and therefore outside any jurisdiction.
what's odysee's policy on child porn, anyway?

had a look. lots of anti-vaccine videos, some antisemitic stuff, a bunch of videos on how obama (!) is a satanist, one stoning of a man is pakistan and a bunch of videos on investing bitcoin. and, of course, clips of jordan peterson at his most misogynist. and a historical revisionist video in German on the "rape of Germany" at the end of ww2.
yeah, I'm sure this is going to improve the internet.

did I mention that youtube is okay, if you install ad- and tracking blockers and don't log in but search for things you actually want to watch?

In my view, Odysee is the other extreme of Youtube.

Youtube is not okay, in my view. It censors heavily - even reasonable viewpoints from educated people such as medical doctors. But mostly it censors anything that isn't an uber-capitalist, virtue signalling, Silicon Valley approved political opinion.

There needs to be a middle-ground I think.

If Odysee becomes bigger, I am sure they will become moderately censored which would be helpful.

Personally, I was watching Muslim beheading videos at the age of 15 in Information Technology class at my Christian high school.

I feel that desensitisation to violence through media is actually helpful in managing volatile emotions. But that is just my personal experience.

^ I'll add to that. If things are persistently censored so that nothing offends - even slight offenses seem shocking to the people who live in such a censored echo chamber.

I can do without recordings of people dying in my daily feed, tbh.

And I also don't really understand what non-msm views youtube is supposedly censoring. If I don't intervene and starting with daily news from some publiy funded tv station, after a few videos I'll be in aliens-built-the-pyramids terrirtory, via doctors with basically all imaginable opunions and their opposites, and people who think they are defending EVROPA against "the degenarets" by lifting weights.

you can have academic discourse and obscure college lectures - and rightwing fringe podcasts.... I'm pretty sure there is censorahip going on, but I can't see an entire group of people, say, doctors with heretic opinikns on Covid-vaccines, being censored

Well, they have been censored. I have tried to upload videos of them (doctors with heretic opinions on vaccination) - onto Youtube and they get taken down immediately by machine learning algorithm computers.

Which is why I am now on Odysee - my channel can be seen with these videos uploaded on Odysee, that were previously censored on Youtube.

hmm. maybe it's the language - and only english-language medical information is being controlled.

soo... where/under what title can I find videos you put up on odysee? I'm curious to see a video that youtube actually took down (and which doesn't contain someone getting killed, or racism/antisemitism... I have the feeling they don't take down sexist videos)

It is not just the language. They censored Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg, a former German physician & high ranking German politician.

There are plenty of doctors' that have been censored from speaking their mind on the vaccination issue.

I know Wodarg - from youtube. He didn't do his reputation any favours by joining the newly formed "the base"-party, which is a party that brings together the anti-vaccination movement with the far-right. ... it's not hard to find any of his older stuff, pre 2021. He no longer is a politician of any rank, tbh.
I recently watched a video of his where he complained about the millions wasted on preparation for a possible H1N1 epidemic, claiming it's a chimera created by the pharma industry.
Fast forward a few years, there's a pandemic and no one's prepared for it.
Now he's calling the Corona-vaccines bio weapons. ...

You also posted A LOT of Andrew Wakefield and his Vaccines cause Autism theory.
This has been disproven and Andrew Wakefield hasn't been allowed to practition for years.

If you listen to Dr. Wakefield's side of the story, you would be able to better make your mind up about who is on the right side of history, so to speak.
