Ukraine's Chief of Defence Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov claimed Putin, 69, was attacked in an "unsuccessful attempt" to kill him around two months ago when he was in the Caucasus—an area comprised of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and parts of Southern Russia—only days into the Ukraine invasion.
Too bad. That would have saved countless lives. The world will be a slightly better place once that monster is six feet under, that's for sure.

From what I know, it is true. Warheads and rockets are stored separately.

If they are stored separately, would it be a good idea for NATO to have the warheads in the rockets ready to go just to be a step ahead of Russia just in case?

I think it would be a good idea to have a number of plans for a variety of possible developments - and not to boast about nuclear weapons right now.

Quote:
Veteran US statesman Henry Kissinger has urged the West to stop trying to inflict a crushing defeat on Russian forces in Ukraine, warning that it would have disastrous consequences for the long term stability of Europe.

The former US secretary of state and architect of the Cold War rapprochement between the US and China told a gathering in Davos that it would be fatal for the West to get swept up in the mood of the moment and forget the proper place of Russia in the European balance of power.

Dr Kissinger said the war must not be allowed to drag on for much longer, and came close to calling on the West to bully Ukraine into accepting negotiations on terms that fall very far short of its current war aims.

“Negotiations need to begin in the next two months before it creates upheavals and tensions that will not be easily overcome. Ideally, the dividing line should be a return to the status quo ante. Pursuing the war beyond that point would not be about the freedom of Ukraine, but a new war against Russia itself,” he said.

He told the World Economic Forum that Russia had been an essential part of Europe for 400 years and had been the guarantor of the European balance of power structure at critical times. European leaders should not lose sight of the longer term relationship, and nor should they risk pushing Russia into a permanent alliance with China.

“I hope the Ukrainians will match the heroism they have shown with wisdom,” he said, adding with his famous sense of realpolitik that the proper role for the country is to be a neutral buffer state rather than the frontier of Europe.

Russia "guarantor of the European balance of power structure" :lmao:
Apparently, dr Kissinger needs a genocidous agressor in Europe. For balance.

The strategic nukes of the Russia, US,China ,Britain and France are at a constant state of readiness.

That means they are loaded and ready for launch within several minutes probably less.

It’s been like that for half a century or so.

Battlefield nukes however are stored separately they tend to be weaker and have shorter range.

Looking at when Kissinger was in charge, I wondered if he was involved in the infamous US reaction (or rather lack of it) to the genocide of Bengali... yes. Directly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Kis ... ration_War
Well. No more questions. He can follow the Russian warship if you want to know my opinion. You won't maintain world balance by ignoring things like that.

Strategy is the plan for battle, while "battlefield" is the real-life combat situation.  It is the difference between theory and practice.

"In theory, theory and practice are the same.  In practice, they are not." -- Benjamin Brewster (1882)

"No plan for battle ever survives first contact with the enemy." -- attributed to many

That information is classified above your security clearance, citizen.

What's the difference between battlefield and strategic?

In simple terms strategic nukes are the ones in silos or subs that are locked & loaded and ready to fly within several minutes of Biden / Putin’s command via the famous brief cases each man has carried a few feet away from them at all times.

They tend to be bigger, thousands of times more powerful than that dropped on Hiroshima & can cross thousands of miles to wipe out cities in US / Russia. Like the US LGM-30 Minuteman or Russian RS-28 Sarmat.

Russia has 1,588 the US 1,644.

Then you have battlefield or usually referred to as tactical nukes some of which can even be launched by even artillery guns, that are smaller & less powerful with a limited range.

Most are launched though from the air as cruise missiles and are many times more powerful than Hiroshima.

The distinction between the two is blurred, for example Russia could launch a KH 102 cruise missile from a bomber in the mid pacific, polar cap or even maybe its territory to take out Los Angeles with a 25 kT warhead (Hiroshima was 15kt).

Its an easy way of getting round arms control measures as it tends to be the strategic nukes that are controlled. If you want to get round controls just call it a tactical nuke & store it somewhere away from a missile.

The US has 3,750 warheads & Russia 5976. But again, the distinction between tactical & strategic is blurred when taken off a missile and exact numbers are unproven. No doubt both sides have more plus underground facilities to build them in war. These people plan everything & are the smartest people in each others military.

The big unknown is China which used to have 350 but has recently increased to 1000 and not signed up to any arms control agreements.

If it turns into a shooting war between Russia & US / Europe all will be destroyed & 100`s of millions killed.

China will rule the world.

The US faces a conundrum – allow China to rule the planet and dominate while its ruined or hit China to prevent this but by doing so it risks using less of its stockpile on Russia, but China will use its 1000 nukes on the US + Russia`s 1588 nukes that have already hit, leaving the US the most damaged, with both Russia & China less so.

I’m sure the US planners have already secretly considered this.
