Chris Hedges is one of the people I actively searched for on youtube to find them in RT segments, yes. As I said: they do have interesting guests - Zizek and Bazon Brock on German language RT.

They also had tinfoil hatters, anti vaxxers (before covid and the not entirely unjustified criticism regarding corruption in context of mRNA vaccines), and quite a noticeable Russian view on things. They had literally everything the other media outlets had not.
But with this variety of viewpoints and info, it was impossible to even form your own opinion - because someone on RT would also have the opposite, ....
unless you went to look for the specific intellectual you wanted to hear - like Hedges - and stayed away from the rest, i.e. performed your own censorship by selecting whom to listen to.


but really, there's no leg to stand on in regards to freedom of journalism as long as Assange is in jail and Snowden in Moscow anyway.

While sounding alarms may be a wonderful way to attract attention, without knowing what to do when the alarm sounds is why the alarms — by themselves — are practically useless. For example, knowing that your house is on fire is worthless if you do not know how to escape the flames.

Chris Hedges is a national treasure, in my mind. Sure, there were many voices on RT that weren't worth listening to. But the good ones were afforded a freedom that isn't allowed on our media. Ironic, I suppose.

I am depressed over watching how censorship is,getting worse in the U.S., and the people cheering it on have no conception if how detrimental it is to our survival.

I partly agree, but I must point out that the American media do a good enough job of stirring up discontent within America themselves - mainly stirring up non-white anger through their dishonest reporting of 'racial' incidents, or incidents that aren't even racial but are made to seem so (see the George Zimmerman case, the Covington kids case, the Kyle Rittenhouse case, the list goes on).

In this context, the old Soviet strategy of stirring up non-white Americans against the white majority would be redundant. Russia Today apparently (and understandably) think it's more effective appealing to normal conservative-minded white Americans who are tired of the leftist and anti-White biases of their own media channels. And of course Russia Today appeals to Americans/Westerners across the political spectrum who are sick of the hypocrisy and warmongering of their foreign policy elites.

Sure, it's fairly cynical on behalf of Russia Today, but IMO it still makes them better than sh*t like CNN or the BBC. My opinion on that is only strengthened when I see who on this thread is most dismissive of Russia Today as a media outlet - people like Fnord and The Walrus.

Why do you think RT did stirr up non-whites against whites and progressives against conservatists - but not the other ways around?
The goal is unrest, so it makes perfect sense to stirr up anybody against anybody else, to prevent any coherent response of the society when a crisis comes.

I don't know what you are talking about. I specifically said that RT does not stir up non-whites against whites, not least since that strategy (which was once employed by the former Soviet Union) would be redundant in modern America when the American media already does the exact same thing.

You should instead be asking why the American media loves to stir up non-whites against whites so much (as well as stirring up resentment amongst sexual minorities), but I'm pretty sure we couldn't delve into that topic too deeply on this so-called politics sub-forum without posts getting removed.

As for RT's goal, I think it's more to simply get the American/Western masses to be more sympathetic towards Russia. If RT wants to stir up any distrust, it would be the distrust of the American/Western masses to their own elites (which is well justified) rather than the distrust of the American/Western masses towards each other.
