Why this « never give up » culture?

For me it wasn't so much never give up, it was, if you can't get a date, get good.

I can think of a couple of former members here who were incapable of letting go of the idea of a relationship themselves. Like, if they want to give up on having a relationship and focus on doing other things instead, that's their choice but instead of giving up and letting go they kept on obsessing over having a relationship.
