Picking just two is difficult. There are reasons all are to be commended.

>=>William Hartnell originated the role and took it seriously
>=>Patrick Troughton pulled off the first regeneration and was fun
>=>Jon Pertwee saved the series from waning audience interest
>=>Tom Baker my first Doctor...everyone likes their first Doctor...plus great fun
>=>Peter Davison when the classic Who was most like "real" Science Fiction
>=>Colin Baker the actor was not treated so well so I'll give him a sympathy vote
>=>Sylvester McCoy did good work and came back to hand-off to Paul McGann
>=>Paul McGann kept the Doctor alive during that long hiatus
>=>John Hurt ended that horrible war!
>=>Christopher Eccleston made a wonderful restart of Who
>=>David Tennant was just outstanding
>=>Matt Smith was darn near as outstanding
>=>Peter Capaldi reminds me of Jon Pertwee who was his first Doctor...I respect that

Don't know who most of these are, as I'm only familiar with the series from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s. I voted for Jon Pertwee, who was at least passable in the role. What made his era memorable though were Katy Manning as his assistant 'Jo Grant', and Roger Delgado as the original Master.
