Seems to be an almost permanent thing for me. Always lost inside my own head, never quite taking in fully what people are saying to me, hearing things but having to think them through and process them before I understand them and put them in the right slots so they make sense with my own thoughts.

Overwhelm. Sensory overload. Type IV hypersensitivity -- may be related to gut issues. Or other types -- Type I and Type II is your visibly popular allergic reactions. Type III can look like some autoimmune disorders or it is. Autoimmune disorders. Unprocessed trauma. Unprocessed/dysregulated thoughts/emotions. Slow processing speed. Insomnia/Non restorative sleep. Stress. Hormones. Endocrine disorders. Depression. Anxiety. Shutdowns. Burnouts. Respiratory diseases/disorders/issues. Chronic illnesses in general.
Pick one... Or several which usually overlapping one and the other. Anyone can expand this list.

I have been coming out of a period of brain fog that lasted years. I know how terribly unclear the world is when the fog descends. And I would think to myself, I know I am smarter than this, I remember being more alive and able to do things, etc.
I hope your fog is temporary and short.

Yeah feel like I live in a haze or a daze a lot anymore. Like trying to think through molasses or mud, not really connecting with anything and too tired/wore out to try.
Other than the dysregulated emotions I feel, nothing really feels real to me (not me, not you and not reality). This will likely have many of the the same effects as "brain fog". It all feels like a dream, which might be why daydreams are so effective for me.
I guess one or more of those acronyms I have will do this.
