Ketanji Brown Jackson becomes first Black woman confirmed to Supreme Court.

The Senate voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first Black woman Supreme Court justice, with 3 GOP senators joining Democrats to vote in favor of her confirmation. Jackson's confirmation won't change the ideological balance of the court, but the confirmation marks a significant historic milestone for the Supreme Court and the federal judiciary. Jackson sits on DC's federal appellate court and will be sworn after Justice Stephen Breyer retires sometime in the summer.

The first black person to become a US supreme court justice was Thurgood Marshall in 1967 - 55 years ago.
The first woman to become a US supreme court justice was Sandra Day O'Connor in 1981 - 41 years ago.
