A Triumph Stag from Series 2, Episode 3 of Man At The Top from 1972, manufactured by British Leyland from 1970 to 1977. A fascinating car in many respects, but ruined by quality and reliability issues. The 3 litre V8 engines frequently failed, due to overheating problems caused by defective water pumps and corroded aluminium cylinder heads, and also because of premature wear in timing chains and crankshafts. Many desperate owners resorted to fitting the 2.5 litre straight six engine from the Triumph 2500, or the Rover 3.5 litre V8. Only 7000 of these cars were made during the lifetime of the model, a sad tale of what might have been.
