A Jensen C-V8, driven by John Mannering in The Baron. The predecessor of the Jensen Interceptor, it used the same Chrysler 6.3 litre V8 engine.

Also from this episode, a Jaguar Mark 2, manufactured 1960-67 and quite popular as a police car.

Image

This particular car comes to a very sorry end, however.

A Citroen DS from the same episode. Almost certainly the same one which featured in several episodes of 'The Saint', as all the ITC shows shared the same props, stage sets, etc.

A 1950s American car from a 1966 episode of The Baron, entitled 'Red Horse, Red Rider'. I think it's a Chevrolet Bel Air.

A couple of cars from Episode 5 of 'The Baron' (1966), set in Eastern Europe. Can anyone identify them?

Some interesting 1960s cars from episode 8 of 'The Baron' (1966).

Image

A Singer Gazelle, manufactured by the Rootes Group, later to become part of Chrysler.

Image

An Alfa Romeo GTA (I think).

Image

Nice rear view of a Ford Cortina MK1.

Image

A Ford Zephyr/6 Mk3. This car tails John Mannering's JensenC-V8 in this episode.....

Image

....but a few minutes later, it has turned into a Ford Zephyr/4 Mk3! Not the continuity department's finest hour, lol.

Pretty in Pink -- She had a funky little VW.

Interesting picks, the carriage and this, LOL.

The Karmann Ghia are very beautiful, always loved them, even if very underpowered for the looks...(45 kW; 60 hp)

they were kinda expensive at the time, and unfortunately expensive to own too:

"In contrast to the Beetle's machine-welded body with bolt-on fenders, the Karmann Ghia's body panels were butt-welded, hand-shaped, and smoothed with English pewter in a time-consuming process commensurate with higher-end manufacturers, resulting in the Karmann Ghia's higher price."

Panels basically hand made, and if you got in an accident, panel beating costs much higher, cos of the fine work done in pewter.

Also means you can't just take a panel from one and put it on a different one, apparently!

Effectively they are kinda carriageworks manufacture!

So two very different sorts of carriages, LOL!

Oh, though I personally re-watched "The Goddess of 1967", which is all about Citroens and not at all.

Image

Probably needs several trigger warnings these days, but about a depressed Japanese businessman obsessed with a particular model of Citroën DS (French car brand nicknamed Goddess) who travels to Australia to buy one and has to go a seriously surrealistic road trip with a troubled blind 17-year-old Aussie girl (Rose Byrne) in the car allegedly to get permission to sell the car.

A bit trippy and just as you're cruising along you get hit with tragic backstory to the characters over and over.

Abuse and violence and overexposed colours of the Aussie outback.

I saw this in a show this week.

Does anyone know what show or what it is?

From Episode 12 of The Baron (1966):

Image

A very attractive shot of a Wolseley 6/110 police car. This was a slightly more upmarket version of the BMC Austin Cambridge and Morris Oxford models.

Image

The above car bears a very close resemblance from the front to a Simca 1000.....

Image

....but from the rear it looks quite different from that model.

Image

The nameplate would probably clear up the mystery if it were more legible....

A Ford Zephyr Mk 2 (1956-62) from Episode 14 of The Baron (1966). These had an in line 6-cylinder 2.5 litre engine.

A P4 Rover from a 1969 episode of On The Buses. These were manufactured from 1949-64 by the Rover company, which had a reputation for quality before it became part of British Leyland in the later 1960s. The 1970s Rovers were far less impressive in terms of build quality and reliability, notably the SD1 range.

It says "daffodil".

Yep, thanks for that!

The Wikipedia article also mentions the fact that this model appears in that particular episode of The Baron !

A Ford Capri from the opening sequence of Minder (1979-94). These cars were manufactured from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, and had something of a 'boy racer' image. I bet they sold a lot of them in Essex.

Arthur Daley (played by George Cole) on the left, by the way, and Terry McCann (Dennis Waterman) on the right.
