I've heard people say that God must exist because they say that the Earth cannot come into existence without a creator anymore than a house can assemble itself without a builder

Clearly they don't know or don't believe in the Big Bang Theory (not the show, the actual theory).

Since no one can know what occurred or existed before the "Big Bang" (or "Quantum Coalescence"), it hurts no one to attribute the triggering event to the willful actions of a supernatural entity -- e.g., "God".

"In the Beginning, there was nothing.  The Lord said, 'Let there be Light!'  Then there was still nothing, but you could see it much better." -- John Doyle, Second City Comedy Troupe, 1978

Some people think intelligent aliens from another universe created our universe from a science project. So if that was the case, you could refer to them as "God" in a way.

If 'the creator' doesn't need a creator why insist the universe does? :?

If God existed and created the world, then who created God?

Because we directly experience the universe, and observations have shown that the universe had a beginning.

As for God . . . believe what you will.

Ask a Theologian -- someone with a Ph.D. in Theology.

Otherwise, anyone's guess is as good as anyone else's.

I don't believe in God anyways. I worship the sun and the moon. Everybody's seen the sun and the moon, there's enough evidence that they exist, but nobody has ever seen God so there's no evidence that he exists.

Still, how did matter form in all of space to make 9 enormous planets and zillions of stars and a great, big, fat sun? Where did it all come from to begin with?

The universe having a beginning isn't proof of a creator, it's really just the boundary where our ability to understand and observe ends. It's analogous to an event horizon. It really doesn't cause a creator to be required, it could just as easily be the result of some natural phenomenon we're unable to observe.

The Big bang is also a theory but at least it's one that can be based on empirical evidence in relation to the movement of matter in the detectable universe moving from what appears to be a central point.

The god-concept is very old, harking back probably to the plains of Africa when our ancestors thought our fate was in the hands of an all-powerful being/diety/spirit.

The moment we become sentient in childhood we attribute our existence to our parents so likewise primitive people assume they couldn't have just accidentally appeared on the earth so they likewise attribute their existence to some unknown sky father and earth mother.

Tribal peoples who live at relatively low population densities often tend to have lots of little things to worship; animism and ancestor worship is common and often anything genuinely amounting to a god is lacking. People living in rural areas until quite recently tended to still have a lot of superstitions and beliefs tied to all sorts of beings far too weak to be considered gods, but still 'powerful' compared to people.

I agree the concept of a god is old, but I don't think it emerges until after there are individual people within a society with overwhelming power and that effectively it represents humans mirroring their society onto their understanding of how the supernatural must work.

I'm not absolutely certain because outsiders would likely describe an important and prominent spiritual being as a god by analogy even if the relationship had with it was different enough to question whether or not that's the ideal way to describe it.

Then again the definition can be loosened until every inanimate object's spirit is a god which annihilates my whole case.

Wrong.
What is needed is an understanding of human psychology, anthropology, evolution, evolutionary psychology, and a big skunk brain. 8)

"42" is "the meaning of life, the universe, and everything", but you really don't want to know the question if you are an emotionalist.
Only intellectuals may contemplate this, and emerge psychologically unscathed. 8)

What we can conclude, is if god *does* exist, he/she is one hell of a bastardo sadist. 8)
