You can find anything on social networks, even externally imposed advertising.

I found it made me less sociable. It scratched what little social itch I have. I was following the lives of old schoolmates, people I'd known for just a few years and hadn't seen in real life for over 20, yet I knew where they lived, what their spouses looked like and how many children they had. I never actually interacted with them, it was just a reality show. One day the weirdness of that struck me and I shut it all down.

The only social media I use is Messenger on FB.
I talk to a few family members in other countries.
I don't do a regular FB account.

I'm used to working with social media, using https://nlosmm.com/ and setting up advertising components. It's easier for me to determine what is advertising and what is not. This business of any scale, organization and holding events, education, culture, hobbies, science, sports, religion, politics, charity, social projects - SMM is applied practically in all spheres of modern society.

^^ We are awash in sneaky advertising. A video clip of something interesting built of cardboard is almost sure to be sponsored if the production values are decent and a product name is visible. "Product placement" on movie sets is both popular and expensive. Even whole themes, like the gang in The Big Bang Theory being obsessed with Star Wars and Comic books must have been worth mega-millions on the side.

I would classify a site like WP to be a type of 'social media'.

Couldn’t keep up …. Did not enjoy it , shortly after joining . . . . . Realize it is a singularily a great thing for many people , especially newer generations . But it felt like a lot of marketing . And many unsolicited friend requests .
From unknown persons . IT really seemed alittle bit like it was subverting societal real life interactions.?
Whilst getting people to publish private info . Online .

The automated pushing of targetted advertising an Suggested Posts may be having a seriously harmful effect on the world.

Outrage, arguments, all these generate stats showing a page if Viewed, and as a result becoming Valuable advertising space.

I found this interview with Charles Arthur, the author of "Social Warming: the dangerous and polarising effects of social media" quite disturbing.

I didn't get into it that far, but that's still what I see. Zuckerberg has found a way to tax having friends, and has no scruples about who pays for his data. Sadly, one of my young friends has quit responding to other channels, so he is lost to me now.
