Or as Jaron Lanier put it recently (paraphrased): the algorithms are geared towards outrageous tweets, not real issues, and therefore, we discuss the outrageous tweets, not reality.

musk turning twitter even more into 4chan won't exactly improve that

Elon Musk Vows to Unban Trump From Twitter

He has previously said he doesn't agree with how the service is run and that he doesn't have faith in its leaders to do their jobs correctly. Among his complaints, Musk, the world's richest person, has said he believes the company is overly aggressive policing its platform to remove hate speech and harassment.

The ice cream machines were never broken. People just abused the cheap soft-serve function to the point McDonalds said enough was enough.
