Yes, we had this in Poland in communist times, too.
Officially, the party was a monolith.
Unofficially, there were two groups pretty viciously fighting each other.
Some aspects of it still linger.

To be fair, this can happen to any ruling group that dominates, whatever its ideology.
Where there are people, there will be conflicts of interest, and without enough external pressure, new divisions will start from within. This dynamic occurs at many levels.

If someone speculate on the CCP based on the situation of a certain political party in the multi-party system, they will not get any valid results.
There's still some sort of checks and balances here, it's just that everyone's faction isn't written on their forehead.
