How are state agencies ( desgined to serve clientele with developmental disorders more limiting than (HFA) (ASD) High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders) reassessing services for clientle with HFA?

Here in California, our state's agency (Regional Center System) serves clients with developmental disabilities.

A few years ago, our state's agency changed their elegibilty requirements to include clientele with least restrictions to independence...such as HFA.

One of the challenges the CA Regional Center System must reassess are the minimum number of monthly hours of Independent Living Support (ILS) services (five hours minimum to be specific) for clientle with least restrictions to independence.

In short, the minimum of five hours per month of ILS services for clientele with HFA ASD might be asking too much time. As few as a couple of hours per month is sufficient.

Reducing the five-hour minimum of ILS services can free-up time for service personnel to assist clientele who need much more than...five hours service time per month.

For clientele with least restrictions to independence, five-hours per month can be that stumbling-block discouraging clientele from ILS services - hence the only connections to the CA Regional Center System are four annual quarterly meetings with an advisor....minus ILS services.

Anybody considering the petitioning their state's developmental services agencies to reassess how to better serve clientele with least restrictions to independence?
