Space experts think a solar flare could hit Earth on May 28.
The predicted “glancing blow” would produce “G1-class geomagnetic storms”.
https://www.news.com.au/technology/scie ... bd162681bd
“The bulk of the CME will miss Earth, passing just ahead and south of our planet. However, a fraction of the cloud will hit.”
G1-class means the solar storm could cause weak power grid fluctuations and have a small impact on satellite communications.
A G1 storm can also confuse migrating animals that rely on the Earth’s magnetic field for a sense of direction.

Our creative writers group meets on Saturdays; as long as the flare doesn't give me writers block today I don't much care about the solar event.

Right now here it is only 7 minutes in to the 28th.

Anyone notice if their power grid was impacted?

It’s possible, they made it this far south before.I’ve seen them twice but it wasn’t as spectacular as up north. The sky looked pink towards the north.

Did any such “problem” even exist?

Sure, there was potential for something to happen, but was it really a threat?

These “doomsday” predictions always seem to have some way to fizzle out.

Hey...

I am so tough that I survived...the Y2K disaster, the Mayan Apocalypse, the "5-5-2005" event predicted in the book of that title, and the fulfillment of Harold Camping's predictions of the world's end. So - for me- this solar thing was a challenge...but I survived! :D

Actually I didnt notice a damn thing, and didnt know about it until after the fact-when I got around to reading this thread!

you will want to look for meteorites in a shower tomorrow (May 30/31) the earth will be passing through a debris field left by a deteriorating comet. It may be nothing, or it may be spectacular. You might also be able to hear meteorites on the radio.
