BDS map ties police, media to Boston Jewish, 'Zionist' institutions

Quote:
Boston Jewish and Zionist institutions were alleged to be "structurally tied" to US media, police, government, and other key local establishments in a mapping project by activists affiliated with the Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment (BDS) movement on Friday.

The interactive map, created by The Mapping Project, ostensibly shows a network of connections of institutions that support Israel and other "harms that we see as linked, such as policing, US imperialism, and displacement/ethnic cleansing," the activist group said on their website.

The map ties Zionism to the "harms" of US imperialism, ableism, ecological harm, gentrification, the prison-industrial complex, and more. Institutions perceived by the activists as guilty of these "harms" are connected to the network, and subsequently to Jewish and Zionist establishments.

The database includes profiles on each entry on the map and explains their connection to Israel and other crimes.
"Our interactive map illustrates some ways in which institutional support for the colonization of Palestine is structurally tied to policing and systemic white supremacy here where we live, and to US imperialist projects in other countries," The Mapping Project wrote. "Our map also shows the connections between harms such as privatization and medical apartheid, which are often facilitated by universities and their corporate partners."

A high school, Gann Academy, is part of the system because the school has Zionism in its student clubs and allegedly in the curriculum, and because the school encourages students to travel on programs to Israel — Which the map project decries as being laden with "pinkwashing" and "greenwashing" efforts.

Media outlets such as the Boston Globe and Jewish Journal were included in the network for "willfully spreading Israeli state propaganda" and capitalism.

Cultural programs and institutions such as the Jewish art collaborative or the Jewish Teen Foundation of Greater Boston are blacklisted in the database for promoting Israeli arts and culture.

Multiple Jewish charities are included in the maps, as "charity is fundamentally misconstrued as a selfless and generous act," the project asserts. "In reality, charitable donations are supporting the colonization of Palestine and violence worldwide."

Boston Jews say a pro-Palestinian group’s map of local ‘Zionist leaders and powerhouse NGOs’ is a guide to antisemitism
Quote:
Jewish groups in the state say The Mapping Project’s efforts amount to little more than an attempt to catalogue and intimidate area Jews.

They are choosing, in their desire to be intersectional, to essentially point the finger at the Jewish communal infrastructure of Greater Boston as responsible for every evil under the sun that they can think of,” Jeremy Burton, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston, told JTA. “They make no bones about it.”

Burton said he was especially concerned that the map was amplified and praised on Twitter by the nonprofit activist group Massachusetts Peace Action, which he said has a lot of sway in progressive circles and often sits down with local politicians.

In a joint statement, Boston’s communal Jewish organizations say that the map and its creators’ stated goal amount to little more than an effort to “dismantle” the city’s organized Jewish community writ large.

The joint statement from the CJP, ADL and JCRC said the map “draws on age-old antisemitic tropes that are all too clear to our community: Jewish wealth, control and conspiracies.”

Much of the Mapping Project’s focus is in line with broader trends in anti-Zionist discussions. The focus on police departments follows a recent claim by some progressives that U.S. police have picked up abusive tactics during fact-finding trips to Israel sponsored by Jewish groups — an allegation denied

Horrifying.

In theory, boycotting illegal Israeli settlements on the West Bank doesn't have to be racist. In practice, the people organising it are.

The Israel Lobby in the U.S. has been harassing and intimidating people and ruining people's lives for decades (read They Dare To Speak Out by Paul Findlay for example). And now they are whining because they're tasting a tiny bit of their own medicine. I have zero sympathy.

Then do your thing at Israeli lobbyist headquarters.

When you publish a map online you make people a target. Look at what just happened when the addresses of Supreme Court members were posted online. Some guy tried to assassinate one of them.

This was more then the usual publish address then when something happens feign innocence because you never explicitly called for violence. Saying you want “dismantle” these places is about as close as you can get to saying get violent without explicitly saying it.

The mapping was well beyond the Israeli lobby and those working for them. Included was a high school, a charity, the council of synagogues, Jewish Teen Collaborative, a Jewish Arts Council. These people have not harassed and intimidated anybody. There “crime” was to have an opinion you do not like. They deserve a target on their back for that? That is woke. If you look at the language BDS Boston used it was right out the woke playbook.

House lawmakers urge federal inquiry into ‘Mapping Project’

Quote:
A bipartisan group of 37 House members is urging federal law enforcement agencies to investigate the potential use of the Boston-area “Mapping Project” by extremist groups.

A new congressional letter, obtained by Jewish Insider and sent yesterday by the bipartisan group of lawmakers to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and FBI Director Christopher Wray, raises calls for significant federal action in response to the map.

“We fear that this map may be used as a roadmap for violent attacks by supporters of the BDS movement against the people and entities listed therein,” the letter reads. “We ask that you investigate the use of the Mapping Project by extremist organizations, provide any necessary enhanced security for targets listed in the Project, and work with social media companies and internet service providers to prevent its further distribution.”

The letter goes on to call the project “dangerous incitement” and links it to past terrorist attacks on the Jewish community by foreign and domestic extremists.

Joe Bonavolonta, the special agent in charge at the Boston FBI Field Office, said during a Jewish community event last week that the FBI has been monitoring the Mapping Project and working to find more information about it, but had not yet identified any threats of violence associated with it
