I was extremely black and white -- which in part led to a nervous breakdown. Long story short, I then went into a long phase where I basically stopped caring about anything at all. It worked well as a defense mechanism but eventually I realized that I needed to find a middle ground. I'm better than I used to be but I still need to work on knowing when black and white thinking is OK and when it's not.
