A ketogenic diet for mental health?
While the research data is limited in this area, many people report relief from depression and anxiety while on a ketogenic diet. Is it because depression and anxiety are linked to inflammation in the brain and body? The ketone body beta-hydroxybutyrate has been shown to reduce inflammation in the brain and in one study, it exhibited anti-depressant activity by decreasing stress-induced inflammation in the brain. Case studies have demonstrated mood stabilizing effects of a keto diet, but there have been no clinical trials to explore this finding further.

I went on this diet and noticed an absense of anxiety. I still had inhibitions though, so my personality didnt transform or anything. I noticed an improvement with socialising and 'on the spot' thinking. It wasnt life changing but was quite pleasant.

I thought keto diet was for fat people to lose weight. Maybe losing weight makes them happy? Having said that, I hear that keto diet is good for overall health, not just for losing weight. Physical health improves mental health, maybe? I might try that.

I go off and on it, as it's difficult.

Within 2 days of not eating carbs i feel mentally relaxed. I didnt know why but apparently its because of a lack of inflammation in the brain(!)

I love my carb foods though, sandwiches pizza (homer simpson noise). Also the keto diet I find is more expensive. But I love the feeling and more alert mind.

It generally takes longer than 2 days for your body to begin using Ketone as fuel. Glycogen stored in the liver usually needs an additional 2-3 beyond that to run out as well. So you don't need to torture yourself for nothing. In 2 days you won't be burning ketone.

Just the lack of carbs seems to help a bit. Then later its even better.

I don't doubt that. It could be the temporary lack of gluten or a change in blood sugar levels. I just doubt it has anything to do with ketone in 2 days.

yeah that sounds right. There are these pills called MCT Oil which is the only fat I know of that gets converted to ketones immediately. That might help as well.

If you aren't already in a ketone-burning state, MCT oil will raise your triglyceride levels. That's not usually a good thing to do.

Theyre really expensive so i dont use them much. They basically take me out of keto flu immediately.
