Too right, Jakki. It will affect every one of women's rights, not just abortion.

It is a world issue too. Coming to all of our countries soon.

I don't know if it's coming to Canada, I just know how amazing how it is that pro life people only care about the life of a baby *before* it's born. After this there will definitely be an increase of newborns and their placenta thrown into dumpsters, and they won't give a rat's tail.

The next thing will be taking back women's right to vote or go out in public without a male escort in western countries. We're all heading back to the Middle Ages.

Almost certainly this abortion law will come to Britain soon with our right wing government. They are getting a bill ready called 'British Bill of Rights' which will replace the Human Rights Act. i.e. they will decide who qualifies as British and gets the rights. And who doesn't. And they can put anything in the British Bill of Rights that they want. e.g. what healthcare we can have.

We've already lost our right to peaceful protest, so we can't even do that anymore.

and https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/2839

The British Bill of Rights they are setting up is also going to overrule the ECHR and other European laws.

That's a bad turn - I think you should protest while you can.

It's official.

Making abortion illegal is NOW a women's rights issue.

Throwing once-pregnant girls in prison just for having an abortion after having a miscarriage?

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! !! !! !! !! ! :shameonyou:

Am wishing the labor unions would get behind trying to intercede in this Inferior Court ruling.
Calling a nationwide strike . Would bring the economy to a standstill. And just after Covid and all our reserves going to the War in Ukraine. Our government would be facing a tough situation , if that happened .
As a result of removing womens rights , even one of them , we fought so hard for here.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's a civil rights issue for men and women.

Yes --- women more so. Of course I understand about women and their bodies and their choices.
I'm a mother. I've been there, done that, and I completely agree with this as a women's rights disaster.

My point is that it affects fathers too.

If a couple conceives a baby and they both decide they want / need to terminate for whatever reason (accidental conception, failed birth control, financial reasons, maternal health, foetal health ...) the father's voice is also being silenced.

Those men are forced to be fathers against their will (and / or that of the mother).

That includes a heavy financial toll but also an emotional toll, on entire families.

Before anyone thinks I'm being sexist, no ... I'm not saying men's decisions trump women's.
I just feel like men aren't given enough credit as parents or for their own mental health strain.

This is about all humans and the fact that all humans should be treated equally.

We can’t care for all the children in need of foster care and/or adoption as it is. Even though I know what they are thinking, I still can’t fathom why they are actually following through with this, believing that it would be a good idea. I’m not sure if that makes any sense.

I don't think many people understand just how common early-term termination is.

Think of all the young teens and women who have kept this a secret.
All the mothers who helped their daughters without saying a word.
All the couples who decided they just couldn't have another.

I'm not suggesting people are irresponsible in the decision or that they rely on it as a form of birth control, but it seems like most people think it doesn't exist unless it affects them directly.

I fear for these women, especially the young ones who will have nowhere to turn.

This is so so saddening.

And yes, I agree with IsabellaLinton, this affects father's too.

And the UK.....it's disgusting that they've taken away our right to peaceful protest, yet it's okay for the f*****g government to start wars to get what they want.

No right to protest means no right to stand up to this pathetic clown show of a government.

As a trans man this is also terrifying to me. Becoming pregnant and being forced to go through the pregnancy would be traumatizing, and not to mention a possible danger to me and/or the fetus if I became pregnant while or after being on testosterone (which can still happen). No one really mentions us when abortion is talked about, but this is a rights issue and a health concern for trans men, too.
