They can always...go to bars in Canada, and slip young folks mickeys, and have the sedated Canadians wake up 12 hours later at Camp Pendleton!

Shanghai'd by Yanks? You know, they literally went to war with the world's greatest superpower over that, seems a bit hypocritical. Possibly also like foreshadowing. It's not like we're watching a larger neighbour appear to fail at conquering their smaller one right now or anything.

Besides, do you want oorah to become err-eh eh?

I hope this is a true story. I'm still laughing.

I still feel like there won’t be a shortage of military people in the near future.

Don’t forget that many women are joining, too.

Even worse, how about field rations consisting of nothing but poutine and freeze-dried Timmy's?

Feelings are irrelevant.  Recruiting of women is also down, and is likely to drop still further if "free choice" is not restored as an inalienable human right -- a woman cannot enlist if she is pregnant.

True or not, it is making the rounds at the V.A.

A sign-spinner in a full chicken suit on a hot day turns down guaranteed employment (with full health coverage) is not surprising.  I have known divorced men with children who preferred to risk jail time for non-support rather than join even the National Guard (a.k.a., the "Weekend Warriors' Club").

Were you expecting something more like: "For your hospitality our sincerest thanks, and for your offer of professional assistance our grateful acceptance. Terms: cash on delivery, up to and not exceeding one fourteenth of total profits (if any); all travelling expenses guaranteed in any event; funeral expenses to be defrayed by us or our representatives, if occasion arises and the matter is not otherwise arranged for."?

Thats right. Back in 1812 the Brits were shanghai-ing our merchant sailors right off of our ships in the middle of the ocean, and impressing them into service in the royal navy to fight Napoleon. Gave us an excuse to try to steal Canada from Britain... so we kicked off the War of 1812.
