I hate it when items I normally buy at the grocery store are on sale, because people go bonkers and empty the shelves.

I hate that you never know what the next big shortage will be or when it will be. Wonder if we should stock up on non-perishable food and water purification tablets to last the next year or so now or wait a few months before the next US election in 2024?

I love sales and usually buy certain items only when they are on sale. Woolworth sends me email on Wednesdays to let me know my favorite items on sale. Most of them are available when I go shopping on Friday.

But yeah, I know what you mean. There are a few things that become unavailable by the time I go shopping on Friday due to being on sale. For example, Kewpie mayonnaise. On Friday (two days ago) it was on sale and was magically still available. So, I emptied the shelf.

I didn't know Woolworth was still in business.

Also, when something goes on sale with a huge markdown right after I've just stocked up on it, I end up cursing myself for not waiting. I don't exactly have the space here to go back out and buy a load more at the lower price. So at least I'm not selfishly emptying the shelves, I guess?

They're extinct in the USA and UK, but a few companies using the same name operate in other countries, including Australia and South Africa. Not sure if they're related.

Woolworth is probably the biggest supermarket where I live. I find it everywhere.

I get frustrated when things I often buy go on sale when I'm not prepared to buy em cuz I don't have much money & I may be forced to miss the sale. Or I buy the things anyway & then worry more for a bit about not having money. I also get frustrated when a luxury item I've been wanting for a while goes on sale cuz I still cant really afford it but I may buy it anyway or I get frustrated that I still cant buy it :(

Me neither. I don't think I ever been to one. My mom's 1st job when she was about 19 was working at a store that may of been a Woolworth. There hasn't been any in that area probably since before I was born.

Since when has Woolworth been a "supermarket"?

It started out as a dime store a hundred some years ago, and when I worked for them in the Seventies they were still a store that sold sundry stuff, and not grocery food.

It's always been a supermarket as far as I know. Nothing else. I didn't know it died everywhere else. It's thriving here.

Woolworths and Coles are our 2 main supermarkets here.
But I prefer Aldi.
Woolworths used to sell all sorts of things like clothing and knick knacks when I was a kid.
I still come across woolworths branded clothing in op shops from time to time.

The best sales always happen when I am flat broke.
