Yes. I like the self-checkouts. When I go to the supermarket I use the things (I call it a zap-o-tron but I'm sure it has a proper name) where you scan your own stuff as you go around and bag it in the trolley. It helps with budgeting too because you can see how much you're spending. Then (theoretically) you just pay as you leave. Much better than queuing and having a cashier touch all my food and/or try to start a conversation with me. I shop with earphones and I have to take them out with a cashier which is annoying.

Also I've been a cashier and its a horrible job. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Because it cuts down on fraudulent transactions by cashiers.

Because it means supermarkets can hire less trustworthy cashiers for lower rates, and then not train them (so they can't seek higher wages because of their knowledge).

Because it puts the cost of the delays onto the customer, not the supermarket.
