I am against tattoos also - not just because of religious reasons, but because they can be used as a form of tracking ID, covert identification, and OVERT identification with whatever the tattoo symbolizes (i.e. Tramp Stamp.) It wasn't fun to scribble on yourself as a kid, no different as an adult. And some of those things are just plain fugly.
It seems the majority of adults have tattoos these days & a bit of them complain about others have the same tats they have. Lots of people try to be unique & stand out by copying others. I think most record labels & porn studios require tats & people want to imitate the media culture.

I'll never get a tattoo, no matter what.

I think this would be a huge red flag if a) you have been dating for a short time (like, less than a few months?) or b) you are not on very intimate terms/the relationship still seems "new." On the other hand, if you've been together for a few years, live together, or are in some similar very familiar situation, I can see this being a reasonable romantic gesture with no need to reciprocate on your end.

Plus, you could always just ask or bring it up. Something like, "It's really sweet how you got my name tattooed, and I want to like it, but I'm not very familiar with expectations around this stuff and I'm nervous that there's an expectation for me to get a corresponding tattoo now, which I'm not ready for."

^ Frankly she didn't voice any expectations of this sort. And she's totally aware that I won't stand a tattoo on myself.
