Most cases of polio are mild, yes….but enough cases weren’t mild for it to become a public health disaster.

Polio is returning because of vaccine hesitancy. What’s next? Diphtheria, smallpox?

Smallpox was eliminated in the "wild". The only way for that one to make a comeback is for people to either purposely or "accidentally" release it from a laboratory setting. The US operates under strict BSL4 protocols and takes its smallpox samples EXTREMELY seriously. russia (the only other country to possess smallpox) on the other hand has already had incidents where poorly labeled and poorly accounted for samples ended up being discovered where they were not supposed to be... russia also has a long history of running enourmous secret bio-weapons programs with poor safety procedures, including with smallpox.

A comeback of smallpox would have nothing to do with antivaxers and everything to do with the kremlin.

Frankly, what disease isn't making a comeback (other than the all new comers of course)?

And with many of the diseases making comebacks, they are now partially or in some cases completely drug resistant.
