I have a lot going on... And I realized I haven't posted here in a LONG time...

One is a family emergency I don't wanna discuss, but...

I got a job interview for a permanent but seasonal part time job I want 45 miles from where I live at a nature center.... In two weeks... And they wanna see me in person. I put on resume willing to relocate.

Issues: No public transportation to or from that metro area. Interview on a strange day (Wednesday) having a hard time finding a person that can take me even if I gave gas money. A Taxi round trip $200... Employer unwilling to do Zoom.

How far away is it from where you live? Is it near a town with a train station or a bus depot? Can you take a train or bus part way and Uber/taxi the rest of the way? I know Greyhound goes to quite a bit of smallish towns.

The public transportation in the US, outside major metropolitan areas, sucks big time!

There's not even a local bus or shuttle in your town?

Have you looked into carpooling?

I understand all this might not be viable---just sort of a stab in the dark.

I really wish you could get some sort of used car.

How close are you to the nearest station? Can you take a taxi or get a ride.

There is also a public transportation option on Google maps. It's not 100% accurate but will give you some ideas on how to get where you need to go.

Forget hitchhiking. Not safe.

Uber is not practical for an ongoing job.

OP doesn’t live in a city.

They might really like you!

I wish you could get a carpool or something.

How much of a walk is the nearest bus? If it's a couple of miles, I might do it.

She would have to make this trip every day, should she get the job.

Hitchhiking was great maybe 50 or more years ago----but, nowadays, I doubt she would even be picked up.

Actually if I got the job, it's part time and I'd relocate closer anyway since it's seasonal/part time/permanent...

To get to the interview, somebody suggested since I have a license rent a car...

Theres car sharing or from a company, car sharing is cheaper and in my town. I selling an expensive item I don't use anymore to pay for it...

Car-sharing sounds like a good idea.

What sort of lease are you on? If it’s month to month, you could relocate easily. If longer, it might not be so easy—you probably would have to get a replacement for you; otherwise, you’re liable till the end of your lease.

In your situation, it might be better to get a cheap used car.

But car-sharing might be good, too.

People don’t realize the logistical problems which present when there’s no public transportation.
