Plenty of people think the drinks name is spelled with a period. But, no. It is "Dr Pepper". There is no period.

I find it so confusing. How do you when when to spell Dr. with or without a period?

I think one way is American and one is British but I can't remember which is which. Word Spellcheck should tell you.

It had to be Dr instead of Dr. because impersonating a doctor is against the law, even for a bottle of soda pop.

When it was originally sold 120+ years ago it was Dr. Pepper - its was changed to comply with labeling laws. they don't call it D R pepper, its "doctor pepper" so Dr. Is an acceptable abbreviation. It just can't be used for advertising purposes. But, yes the . is no longer in the current trademark. If you want to refer to the product my its original name however you may.

In the chippy I can just hear you saying: "I'd like a cone of chips, mini fish and a tray of ashes of the dead please."

No, it's Pibb Xtra.

It was originally called "Peppo" in the 70s, but they had to change its name because that sounded too much like "Dr Pepper".
