Childlike Enthusiasm

I can express my enthusiasm in a childish way if I'm really excited about something.

I have a lot of interests that cover many different topics, but I'm not going to get excited about, let's say, trains because someone else is. I probably need to be interested in something on some level to get excited about it.

I enjoy observing people and trying to figure out how and why they tick. Usually, there's an underlying reason for strange beliefs and behavior.

Being naïve is different to having childlike enthusiasm though. Being naïve can be dangerous, I'm not sure childlike enthusiasm can.

I wouldn't say that I am naive but I am sometimes mistaken for someone who is.

Yes, me too! In jobs, people think I'm incompetent and have no confidence in me. Then after I leave, my replacement is never as good as me. I've been asked to go back to jobs numerous times because of that reason. Can you guess what my reply was...

It was duck cough. Lots of ducks have coughs, I was just informing them of that

I guess I'm pretty naïve, I trust people too easily and get in trouble due to it. It probably contributes to people thinking I'm "childlike", but a lot more things contribute to that than me just being naïve.

I also like to "people watch" a lot. They're interesting to observe and it's part of how I have learned to mask.

In a lot of ways, I am an overgrown child, but I'm not sure if I have the enthusiasm of one. Feelings (especially strong ones) make me uncomfortable, so to be too excited or happy about a thing is just as uncomfortable to me as being too upset over a thing. Eustress, distress, it's all stress to me. I do my best to shun stress whenever possible. Now off to my pillow fort I go

I can be very enthusiastic about things that I'm passionate about. It's good to have passions.

I may not have “child-like” enthusiasm, but I can and will get very enthusiastic about the music I occasionally perform. The few choral conducting positions I’ve applied to in the past 20 years, people have taken notice, even at times when the performance fell “flat on it’s face.”

I don't feel particularly enthusiastic about anything and I have not done so since about 12

Enthusiasm could be a good or bad thing
