There is someone named Richard Hoagland who for someone reason believes that the Moon of Saturn Iapetus is an artificial world that was made by intelligent extraterrestrials.

"Richard Charles Hoagland (born April 25, 1945), is an American author and a proponent of various conspiracy theories about NASA, lost alien civilizations on the Moon and on Mars and other related topics. Hoagland has been documented to misappropriate others' professional achievements and is widely described as a conspiracy theorist and fringe pseudoscientist." --  Wikipedia

[Richard Charles Hoagland is] Astronomy’s answer to Ken Ham -- with conspiracy theories attached (every conceivable one) -- who thinks X-files is a documentary and apparently believes every single random claim that enters his head (entertaining a hypothesis without accepting it is apparently not a skill he has managed to develop). It is unclear how harmful he is, but he has achieved some notoriety and fame." --  Encyclopedia of American Loons

Pay no attention to Mr. Hoagland, unless you need a good laugh.

Yes, I know. Hoagland has a lot of crazy and nonsensical ideas. He acts like he is a scientist, but he is no real scientist. He is the science equivalent of being a quack.

Isn't that conspiracy theory just plagiarised from the novel version of "2001: a Space Odessy"? Instead of Jupiter, Dave Bowman goes to Saturn, where he finds the Stargate in the middle of the bright side of Iapetus.
