I've noticed many members are complaining about unwanted PM.

Quite often the PM are from newly-registered members with 0 posts.
Sometimes, the sender is an established member who sends creepy messages.

These PM can range from spam (selling products), to full-on sexual harassment.
This usually results in members shutting off their PM to avoid further contact.

I don't want this post to turn into a debate or discussion.

If anyone has received spam PM from new members or "creepy people", please:

- Open the PM so you can report it and the sender's IP can be logged
- Check your mailbox for older PM that you might not have deleted
- Report those as well
- Message me or Cornflake if you are experiencing this problem

Thanks!

A member can also click on the little red exclamation point [ ! ] in the lower right-hand corner of the message itself.  This is the same as using the green [ Report ] button in regular posts.

Yes. ^

That's what I meant by "open it and report".

I think quite often people delete the messages without opening them, or else they open them and think the content isn't "bad enough" to report even though it's a nuisance.

Mod reports pile up over time and it's hard to go back through all of them looking for patterns.
If anyone has deleted bothersome PM but they remember the user name, please let CF know.
Likewise if you did report PMs and you remember the user name, or you still have the PM, please let CF know.

It's possible that your report needs to be looked at again.

I'm in the process of beginning a criminal investigation against a known stalker.
I'm sure there are more than one out there.

All hands on deck.

I haven't had a nuisance PM for years.

I found a way to block PMs from nuisance members.

Please don't name names - it's not the sort of detail that should be made public and may attract attacks, or act as an early warning system.

No worries.  I remember sharing the list with at least one of the mods years ago to see how much could be pruned away.

No sense in provoking their attacks.

I've only ever received one nuisance pm and that was some random spam. I wonder how they select targets.

I would hazard a guess that most of the commonly-selected targets are single women in their twenties or early thirties?

I would also hazard a guess that this might be a more common problem for users here in the U.S.A. than for users in Western or Central Europe?

I’ve received several nuisance PMs over the years. They were mostly of a sexual nature.

Not a surprise, alas.
