You have to do Something……

Have you done something previously that has helped your anxiety?

Is this all from mental health Rootbeer, or do you think you have a virus?
I haven't been following much but have you seen your doctor or psychologist?
They should be able to set you up with some sleep aids and anxiety meds.

I had a similar thing when my husband first left and I was a very young mother.
I still remember the feeling of nighttime, and how bad is was.
I can still smell the air and hear the night train in the distance.
It was 25 years ago but it's all imprinted on me.

I phoned an emergency crisis line and a doctor came to my house.

Maybe that crisis doctor coming to your house is a valid thing in England, but a stunt like that here would cost me as much as my car is worth. But thanks for your words.

I don't know how to get relief. When I have energy and low enough anxiety to make those phone calls to the offices, I just had no luck with appointments.

Yes, I am very affected by what has happened in the way it has happened, and the things that are continuing to happen.

*sigh*

Have you seen your doctor at all?

Perhaps you'd benefit from scheduling an appointment, even if there's a wait.

When I got the house call I think I had called a crisis line, or something.
I can't remember exactly.
It wasn't my regular doctor, although she does do house calls strangely enough.

She was still in med school when that happened.

I don't have a mental health specialist. Or did you mean a general practitioner?

I couldn't get any office to schedule anything at all. Most I ever got was being put on a waiting list to be called when they accept new patients. They never called.

My parents are back in town, I had a couple of shots of brandy with them when I brought dinner. Seems like it actually helped for the moment, but I know it will only make it worse later. :(

I meant your GP.
A GP can treat you for anxiety.
I know that psychiatrists take a long time.
I believe the wait is over 2 years here.

Yeah I did speak with the GP when I had the heart stuff that turned out to be anxiety. Here she can't treat it because she can't diagnose it my understanding GP here isn't qualified for that. She won't be able to prescribe medication for it that insurance would cover, due to the lack of qualifications. All she did was making a referral to a place that couldn't schedule me.

I always forget about trying CBD, but for me it's risky because I work in an industry covered by laws under which THC is still a controlled substance, and we are drug-tested at work.

At least you have sort of an "outlet" here on WP.

You have people like Isabella who are very smart about this sort of thing.

Getting timely, helpful mental health support is difficult, especially with conditions related to anxiety and stress disorders. It’s not uncommon for people to wait months or years to find a doctor or therapist they like, who uses strategies which help. During that waiting period the anxiety can compound, because the person feels unsupported but also has the stressors of arranging appointments and opening up to a lot of strangers they may never see again.

Just realise what you’re going through feeling hesitant to make phone calls is normal. It’s a Catch 22 for people who are already anxious.

I don’t do CBD but my daughter does. One of my cats is on it as well.

Good luck, Rootbeer.

Thank you both for the words. When I'm having an anxiety attack it's hard to have a friendly voice.

It's in The Haven for that precise reason, that I have no other support.

I agree with that, ML.

I would add Omega 3 Fish Oil, NAC Supplements, and B Vitamins.

I know it sounds like new-age hocus pocus but they really do help me.
I can tell the difference when I don't have them.

If you do take Magnesium (ML's link), take it at night because it'll help you sleep.

Do you have access to an EAP? I've never really trusted those, but my distrust may be misplaced.

How do those work?

My insurance has mental health coverage, but it's just impossible to actually use it, as I can't get an appointment.

I used to have EAP coverage at work.
They gave everyone five free sessions per year with an umbrella company that did CBT.
The purpose was to get stressed-out employees back to work, or keep them from leaving.
Personally, I hated them -- but I hate all CBT.

It's worth looking into though.
That's actually a good idea.

With mine there was a phone number with my employee benefits information booklet.
They only see people from your specific employer or group of affiliated companies.
