It’s from fertilizer run off, farm animals and bad septic systems.Mostly in summer when it gets really hot and you want to swim.

Can you propose a solution that won't make farmers feel persecuted? It's a lose-lose situation.

Plant a barrier of shrubs between water sources to slow down run off ,don’t spread more triple 13 than you need ,and don’t overgraze.
They regulate septic tanks now and they have to be inspected before you can get power. However there are lots of old leaky systems and straight pipes still out there.
Don’t locate factory farms in sensitive water areas. They built a hog farm here near National Park land and it was eventually shut down because of concern it was leaking into the river and causing a toxic algae bloom.

This is actual water companies physically pumping sewage into rivers and the sea. Did you click on those links in my first comment? That shows the terrible sight of it.

Yes, it's a different situation. Worth noting that it accelerated from 2016, around the time the Tory / Lib Dem coalition was replaced with a Conservative government.

Where my parents live in northern France they have the agricultural run-off problem - you can't even drink the tap water there.

We have a raw sewage problem in poor areas in rural America.

I just didn’t expect it in England.

You have good answers! Too bad you're not on the county council. The only other thing that might help is if somebody owns a leaky septic tank and can't afford to fix it, maybe there could be funds to help those people out.

Yeah, it’s awful.

And then we get dopey Brits going to the beach and swimming in the sea anyway, and getting ill. There's no telling some people. We've already got polio appearing again, it's a health situation now.

I remember seeing people swimming at a beach that was closed because of jellyfish. They were washing up on the shore in heaps yet idiots still went in the water.
For supposedly the smartest species on the planet we sure are dumb at times.

It's a sign of the decline in our government.

Yes, I think the number of beaches being closed is increasing. Do you know what happened over the Bank Holiday? I presume people were turned away from beaches?

That's just not fair!

Beaches are places where people can feel the seabreeze, and relax.

Oh, England stinks like a pile of dog do
Excessive stench of old "Number Two"!
Those double-flushes, digested din-din.
Won't somebody think of the little children?

 With apologies to Roger Miller

Is it finally going to be socially acceptable to crap in the sea now? I've been waiting ages for the moment I can do more than just pee in the Bristol channel.

Those toilets are so far away.
