As per WP’s rules, “homophobic language” is against the rules, but where’s the line between acceptable and unacceptable?

I have a similar question about transphobic language.
It seems like, at this point, it’s more acceptable to espouse transphobic views than it is to make homophobic remarks. I find that concerning.

It looks like some are struggling with gender identity as many were about homosexuality 10 or so years ago.

What do you consider to be transphobic language? It's a very fraught subject, and as I've pointed out in several of the threads that have touched on it, the science is both far from settled and highly politicized, so there isn't an objectively "correct" position on any of it.

People sometimes use supposed science to “support” their prejudice - whatever form that may take.

I am looking for an answer from the mods about what is or isn’t acceptable.

Report all 'homophobic' and 'transphobic' language and a moderator/admin will remove it. If it is not removed, that is where the 'acceptable line' on this forum exists.

Edit. Sorry, I didn't realize you only wanted moderators to answer.

Maybe my view of what it is differs from the mods because I’ve been seeing quite a bit of it lately.

Hopefully a moderator will answer your concerns.

Anyone can comment and discuss. I would like an official answer, though.

Did you report it? Did you tick the box that you wanted notification when the report was dealt with?

Since in L&D statements about which gender has it easier was a “fraught subject” and is, thus, no longer allowed, perhaps something similar should happen with specific lines of reasoning towards trans individuals - especially those which question people’s identity and/or experience and the lack of desire some have to accommodate them. Nothing positive can come from it.

The rules state that gender is a protected group.

There's a fine line between not understanding someone's experience and invalidating someone's experience.
Nothing wrong with not understanding, everything wrong with invalidating.

Navigating this fine line can be tricky and I do invite feedback on it.

There’s nothing wrong with not understanding, but often when someone claims to not understand and are then given helpful feedback, they proceed to invalidate, making it clear that the supposed lack of understanding was more about prejudice. Then they post and post and post…

And that's how this fine line is most often crossed.
We do intervene if we see such situations - only remember, moderators aren't omniscient nor omnipresent. We rely on members' help.

I wasn’t sure where the line was.

It's sometimes tricky to spot but generally: not knowing is perfectly fine, not understanding is okay (even despite explanation attempts - people have different minds, sometimes something crucial to understanding is unconciously missed for very long time), insisting on invalidating is unacceptable.
