Interesting - I haven’t seen this before.

Please reply to this thread if you know about this, or have questions or comments.

*Started methyl-B Complex with Methyl-Folate, Omega 3s, NAC
Going to a Naturopath if I ever get rid of lingering Long Covid

40% of the entire population has this "mutation."

What I would do.....is to monitor your health thoroughly.

It's not a death sentence to have this "mutation."

Um, no one said it was, but yes actually it can be if it gives you cancer or strokes and blood clot disorders, or if you take nitrous oxide for surgeries.

I'm not saying not to be vigilant.

Vigilant isn't helpful, tbh.
People won't know about their type of polymorphism without testing.
They won't know if they have septal defects etc., without a specialist.

Specific steps need to be taken, including changing the diet.
Consumption of synthetic folic acid in food or vitamins can kill you.

That’s exactly what I mean about vigilant. What you said above.

I’m sorry you’re not feeling well.

Ironically I'm not feeling well because of my blood clotting disorder lol ^ .

Thanks though.

All I meant is that most people wouldn't know what to be vigilant about, or if it's even necessary.

It’s certainly good to have the knowledge.

It’s ridiculous to say that it isn’t good.

But people tend to overreact, and to assume the worst.

You are a person who knows A LOT about this. You can be a beacon for many people who don't have the knowledge you have. Including me.

Overreacting won't help anyone.
People who are concerned should start by testing their Homocysteine levels.
Then see a geneticist for more detailed information.

Most people with the common mutation will have few problems if they change their amino acid consumption.
Some people have a genetic predisposition toward cancer, pregnancy loss, CVA, and other afflictions.
They should know, especially if they plan to have children.

Couldn't complete the quiz to see if I have this disease because I don't live in America. The questions at the end are for American citizens only. Racist.

It's definitely not a "disease."

It's a "genetic difference."

And it's not that "different," really, since 40% of the population has this gene.

Indeed, it would be nice if they included other folks in the world.

Thank you Fenn for bringing this to a more public awareness for us in the Aspie community that might suffer from this mutation . Kinda of a curious website . Must admit already deal with three Docs of different types. That have done me pretty well . But none have ever mentioned this possible mutation .

40% have the common mutation.
There are other mutations of the same gene that can cause more serious problems.

It's not a disease but yes, it can cause diseases including cancer and heart disease among others.
When the body can't detoxify, you can develop any number of diseases.

I just did a genetic cheek swab. Trying to get SOME idea about my meds, my mental health, what meds might (yes might - not a sure thing just a statistical maybe, but information just the same) work or not work for me and my personal chemical soup. Having lots of mood and executive function challenges lately. Just finished treatment for Lyme and this genetic testing was next on my list of “try to make progress on self care” list. One of the many things they will check for in my genes is MTHFR mutation. It is associated with ADHD and Autism among other things. Biology and mental health are complicated.
