I don't get why birds are never mixed-breed.
You never see a half Cardinal - half Blue Jay.
Do they know?

I also don't get why there aren't dead birds all over the place.
What happens to birds when they die?
I'm sure some get eaten by animals but all of them?
They must die of old age or whatever.
Where do they go?

I don't get why people in Canada feel a need to jaywalk. There are plenty of crosswalks and little green men.

you dont see dog-cat hybrids, or deer-cow hybrids, or human-monkey hybrids, walking around. So why would you expect to see the equivalent in birds?

Song break from the thread's inspiration...

Dog-cat, deer-cow, and human-monkey is different than bird-bird.

There are lots of dog-dog breed mixes.
They're called mutts (or sometimes expensive new breeds).

For a long time I didn't "get" how birds have sex.
Doesn't their tail get in the way?
Do they go face to face?
lol

I researched that, but I don't know why they don't breed mix.

I don't get why most people aren't ambidextrous.

Why my sentences are muddled sometimes.

They are NOT different. The species I mentioned are all mammals. Just like birds are all birds. Both the class aves (birds), and the mammalia (mammals) are 'classes'. The same level of taxa. So if mammal species dont interbreed so why would expect bird species to?

Blue jays are to robins what cows are to deer. Two different species. Dog breeds are not analogous to separate species of songbirds. A better analogy (though even this not an exact analogy) to dog breeds would be human 'races' - subdivisions of the same one species: canis familiaris (the domestic dog). However domestic dogs do interbreed with wolves, coyotes, and dingos, which are classified as seperate species from the domestic dog. But closely related.

Some closely related species of songbirds do actually hybridize in the wild. But nothing like jays with robins. More like one kind of sparrow with another almost identical looking species of sparrow that looks almost the same because they are so closely related.

Really? I didn't think of it that way. I'll have to look into it.

One thing I've never gotten is animal categories (species, breed, genus, and all that.)
For some reason I've never understood it and what I learn doesn't stick.

* Yes I know what a mammal is, but didn't know it relates to my question

The sweary woman stereotype. It's absolutely appropriate and ladylike to swear. Forkers.

I've seen very young dead birds before. The ones who failed at the whole learning to fly thing presumably. You have a point though about older birds. I've never given it any thought.

I don't get dog owners who find it funny that I am startled when their dog growls at me. "Aw, isn't that precious? (Name) isn't going to hurt you! *Laughter*

Well, I hope not, but I think it's a normal reaction to be alert when an animal is growling at you.

"Do you not like dogs?" I like the ones that don't greet me with a growl.

^ They stop and stare at me. I'm not quite sure what to do when that happens.

Growling is obviously much worse!

I don't get why autism moms moan about how they'll never hear their non-verbal kid say "I love you". People can show love in other ways. Also maybe if the mom didn't act like their kid is a walking tragedy the kid would show more love as well.

Personally, most parents of verbal kids are lucky when they do hear them say "I love you". And it's not after the parent just gave them toys, food or money. Kids are naturally very self-centered.

I don't get this either. This might be a bad comparison, but I don't get upset that my pets can't say "I love you," to me. They each have their own ways of expressing it and those ways are enough for me to feel loved by them. I don't need to rely on them doing things out of their capabilities to know that. If I had a non-verbal kid it'd be the same thing to me.

I found a huge dead crow in someone's front yard (they had already reported it) during the Nile Virus scare of some years back. But yes you dont see adult birds who just died of old age just lying around. Though you do see the remains of birds killed by your cat around your yard.

But primitive tribal people do seem to encounter fallen adult birds in the wild while hunting and gathering. And they also find discarded skins of molted snakes. The Dani tribe of New Guinea assume that snakes escape death itself by molting, but birds are like humans and are mortal. More than one culture seems to have evolved that same dichotomy:snakes representing immortality, and birds mortality.

I don't get why people are so afraid to be themselves. They either try to be like everyone else or they try to be like the most rebellious person in town.

I don't get how people who claim to be fighting for "personal freedom" also act as if they have the right to dictate what I can and can't do with my body.
