So I have some questions about the portrayal of math contests in fiction:

1) How are the contests themselves portrayed from the viewpoint of the contestants?
2) How are math contests portrayed outside of the contestants themselves?
3) How are mathletes portrayed in fiction? (outside of their intellect)

I know about spelling bees.

But I wasnt aware that "math contests" were a thing.

And I wasnt aware that math contests were portrayed in movies (or in novels etc).

I've never seen a maths contest either in reality or in fiction.

Could you maybe give some examples of these contests.

I was thinking spelling bees too. Although I've never really paid much attention to those either.

The math contests I actually took part in real life:

AMC12: https://www.maa.org/math-competitions/amc-1012

COMC: https://cms.math.ca/competitions/comc/? ... CDEALw_wcB

Competing in both were held at the contestants' schools, and the actual experience of competing in these feels like taking a math test with much harder questions than are typical for high school courses (especially at the end).

Also you have one near the end of Mean Girls (which feels more like a Quiz Bowl-style of game show)
