The start up page for my browser (with all of news and clickbait) has a slick ad for "great prices on homes on Sanibel Island Florida...Up to 75 percent Off".

Sanibel Island is that little spit of land off of Ft. Myers thats been in the news because it just got (a) laid waste by Ian, and (b) is now isolated from the outside world (except by boat or helicopter) because Ian just destroyed the one bridge to the place.

Well...if you wanna get a good deal on ...a pile of waterlogged rubble that used to be a dream mansion, and live in disaster area, isolated from land transport to the mainland, then you're dreams can come true ...for only 75 percent off the original price of that palatial property (that is now a waterlogged pile of rubble). :D

That's about the sickest attempt at click-bait I've ever heard of, if that's what it is.

Scammers have no moral conscience, even less of one than most other humans.

Sometimes the sponsor of these slick online ads is shown as "Holiday Homes", and sometimes the sponsor is "Homes to Go".

Probaby the same company. Apparently they facilitate individuals with palatial homes in resort areas to directly rent out their mansions to tourists. Kinda like timeshares.

"Homes to Go" is apparently a company based in Luxembourg (that Rhode Island sized country in western Europe) of all places, but is really HQ'd in "Berlin Germany" according to Wiki.

Whatever.

Doesnt explain why they are suddenly now hawking properties on an island that a Florida official has just told us all "has been rendered uninhabitable".
