I seem to be a total s**tposter but don’t like twitter because of the format. If everyone ups and leaves twitter now that it is in control of someone not willing to let it be a bottomless pit of money for those invested in it then they should be neuralinked to investigate their politics. Fascinating.

Can you say why it's got better? I am genuinely interested.

I can't say I've noticed that much difference except that 'unusual activity' was seen on my account and I couldn't access Twitter for a few days. No idea what 'unusual activity' it meant, I didn't do anything different. :?

I saw some stuff about vaccines that would not have been on during previous ownership but otherwise it is the same s**tshow it was.

I dipped my toe into Reddit as a tester. A vile echo chamber of racism, disgusted. Please delete my posts the internet is pissballs.

Reddit and Twitter are both terrible. Reddit's awful because the upvote/downvote system ensures that near-any subreddit quickly becomes an echo chamber. Plus, they tolerated some pretty vile subreddits for a long time.

Twitter's awful because the only things it can offer are sloganeering and shouting. I'll never understand why we decided it was a good place for debate, because it's impossible to actually think on that platform (and God help you if you try).

I think the problem with social media is, people just write down every fleeting thought in their mind instead of just letting them go as we normally would. We all have stupid or extreme thoughts flitting in and out of our minds but when we write them down they become 'serious' and something to be argued over.

And of course everyone is anonymous online so there's no accountability or sensible discussion. This means people can just spout nonsense without using their brains.

Well that was hilarious! Piers Morgan's account was hacked last night and tweeted offensive racist messages and insulted Boris Johnson, Queen Elizabeth and Ed Sheeran. Twitter had to intervene and wipe the account

So the man who tweets offensive messages anyway and hacked someone's phone recently, was hacked himself

Best in what way?

I'm still on Twitter occasionally. The main change I've noticed is that a lot of the people I follow are no longer posting, and have pinned tweets indicating which other platforms they're on. So my observations confirm the news stories about Twitter losing vast numbers of users.

And do you think the news about various big advertisers leaving Twitter is false? If so, what is your evidence for this?

If lots of users leave Twitter, it's not surprising that lots of big advertisers are leaving too. It would be surprising if they didn't.

Losing big advertisers is unlikely to be good for a company's financial health, especially in a business as heavily dependent on advertising as social media platforms are. Elon Musk hoped to make up for that by attracting more paid "Twitter Blue" users, by giving those users more privileges. All I can say is, good luck with that ....

And Elon Musk, by going out of his way to offend left-wingers in particular, has harmed his other companies A LOT. Guess who Tesla's main customers were? Guess who was most likely to favor Musk's infrastructure ambitions?

In short, it is obvious that Musk's entire empire is in big trouble now.

Today's major social media in general are conducive to echo chambers.

That's why I think the world needs a return to old-fashioned message boards like Wrong Planet.

Twitter is, indeed, not a good platform for debate. Neither are any of today's major social media platforms. They can be useful as places to find like-minded people, but that's about it.

I was wondering that too. My Twitter account is private but my non-private friends say that all they see now are adverts and right wingers ranting about vaccines, antifa or whatever. We're all moving to other platforms.

Personally I'd much rather see Facebook burn than Twitter.

IMO, before Musk came along, Twitter was the least bad of the major social media platforms.

If only Musk had decided to buy Facebook instead of Twitter ....

I feel this and I wish he would destroy Facebook, Reddit, and Quora too while he's at it.

I think social media has ruined humans. These message boards are as far as we should have gone socialising online.

I remember the hilarity when Twitter arrived. 'Why do people want to know what I'm doing every minute of the day?' said some people. And now look at us...
