Why do I come to a crashing halt when I have to write a cover letter?

I just pretend I'm someone else, and just put dear sir/madam
please consider me for this role because I enjoy X and I'm good at y.
Thanks for reading

Résumés in general are just... ugh. I don't know why writing/keeping mine up to date is so anxiety inducing. It's all about how you can sell yourself, and I am not a salesperson. Luckily my experience gets heads turning so even if I come across as an antisocial nerd, results make up for it.

I think the answer lies in your signature, but that's just a wild guess.

The resume writing seams lass dangerously personal. It is closer to a list of facts.

I would say a resume is a list of facts, so much easier to transcribe in my opinion. Far easier than blowing smoke up your own ass. Have you tried looking at the 1000's of free templates available online for inspiration? Just one of many websites Resumegenius

Unless you are applying for a high level job, cover letters should not be required. As someone who has had to hire a lot, lI find going through 200 to 300 resumes hard enough. I dont want letter to reads. I can figure out what I need in interviews.

Jobs at colleges seem to want cover letters. Hoping to get into a college IT job.
