China boosts coal output as energy security trumps climate

Tokyo | China says it will increase coal production in the next three years as it seeks to insulate itself from global energy shortages and rising prices by bolstering its reserves of commodities.

China sees biggest growth in energy and coal use since 2011

Quote:
BEIJING, Feb 28 (Reuters) - China recorded its biggest increase in total energy consumption and coal use in a decade in 2021, as the economy recovered from COVID-19 slowdown a year earlier, data from the country's statistics bureau showed on Monday.

China, the world's biggest coal burner and greenhouse gas emitter, used 5.24 billion tonnes of standard coal equivalent of energy last year, up 5.2% from 2020, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said.

I can understand it as contrary to belief, coal is potentially less polluting per energy generated than other sources, especially since new technologies in the coal industry have massively reduced the polution levels produced.

What most fail to realize, that many "Green" energies are greatly polluting in their manufacture, and often more polluting than many other ways to generate and use electrical power.

Electrical power in itself is just a convenient means to transfer energy from the source to the item being used. The most efficient means would be to have the power source directly run the item one wants to use, but somehow people ignore this and insist that electricity (The transfer of energy) is clean but they ignore the overall picture of efficiency, as reduce the losses between the power source and the item used, and one has decreased the carbon footprint, as electricity in itself is actually an inefficient way to transfer energy. It is used as it is the easiest way to transfer a source of power over a distance to the place where the power is needed.
All transfer methods have efficiency loss.

The so called "Green-ness" of electrical power comes from the non visible polution side of the transfer and generation, BUT if we actually look at the manufacture of the powersource and storage of the products that we need to build to transfer the energy to its point of use, their "Green energy" status greatly fails and our planet will be far better off using traditional methods.
