The kids who were about 19 when I was 15. Though I have to admit, I was a bit clueless for city life. Also, some creep. Also, my brain. Also, parents. Also, dope.

That doesn't mean they're destroyed forever.
They can be rebuilt over and over again like a house of cards.

I know that, thank you for caring. I just wish i didn't have to bottle up everything

Being asked for a divorce from my first wife, the mother of my two daughters.

It was like being hit in the stomach with a baseball bat.

My descent into depression happened like bankruptcy does -- very slowly, then all at once. I lost everything.

And when I was very close to accepting my fate, by the grace of God I received a lifeline, a second chance, and I grabbed it and worked it with everything I had.

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

Oh there are many.

Physical, mental, sexual and emotional abuse throughout all my childhood, neglect included.

Bullies

People entering my life, hekping then leaving when it no longer suits them.

Reporting SA and mum not believing me then starting a relationship with abuser

Failure of being employed

The list goes on, really.

I don't think my life has been destroyed just yet. Although it does at times feel like I'm travelling through an area in a video game meant for high-class players, when I'm somehow only a level two and I absolutely shouldn't be here yet, but my hastily thrown together solutions somehow work anyway.

There is a nagging feeling that likes to follow me around telling me that my life is too mundane. How it is somehow a failing of mine. That I'm supposed to be more than what I am. A rather self-indulgent thought. I suspect most people feel this way.

For me?

Stigmatisation of autism (being born during a time when it wasn't generally understood by the public)
My dad (mother thinks he definitely has some form of dyslexia, possibly might even be autistic himself)
My sister bullying and teasing me when I was younger
A bad education system (bad before devolution in my country, no science until I was an annoying teenager)
My addiction
Not being able to deal with bullying
General classist bigotry
Not understanding how to listen to music

I largely blame peak ostentatious levels of popular culture and all of the peer pressure that flowed downstream of it around the time I was in my teens.

I think we can look back on some decades as being better suited to certain personality types than others, the attitudes and expectations of youth in the late 20th century in particular wildly swung from one extreme to another ("peace and love" to "hate and destroy" to "check out my designer socks"). Unfortunately my own general demeanour and personal tastes were totally incongruent with what was going on in the 1980s. With the brain I've got, it was never going to be easy being a teenager and I was probably destined to be an outcast regardless of the environment I found myself in, but I'm fairly certain I would have faired better had I been born 10/15 years earlier.

Autism?

My life was filled with opportunities of all kinds. I was just unable or disinterested in most of them. I see most of my problems as internal, autism being internal.

Being asexual. I could have been with the man of my dreams and traveled the world by now. He did that with someone else.

On this forum it should probably go without saying that ASD is the over-arching issue for most of us here. I can't think of a single problem in life, great or small, that isn't amplified by this condition.

Early childhood experience plays a huge part in how well you're able to cope with what life throws at you. Birth trauma has impacted massively on me and may be strongly linked with my ultimate diagnosis for ASD, although being brought up in a stable environment to age 11 is probably the reason I've made it this far without being sectioned.
