Looks like it used to be less painful than Thanksgiving, but got co-opted by the usual suspects and is now more or less a duplication of TG. It's bad enough with one. I'll just use my British nationality as an opt-out card with that, if I have to. I managed to duck out of the "proper" TG because the animals need looking after. So it's an increase in chores for me but definitely the lesser of two evils as far as I'm concerned. If I were more dishonest I'd pretend I was gutted at missing TG, thus gaining hero status - I've seen stuff on Facebook thanking those "noble" people who are missing out on TG to keep important things running, so I'd be a hero, and it would be more thanks-taking than thanksgiving. As it is, the owners of the animals I'm looking after are grateful, so I'm nearly there.

I had a Friendsgiving only once, in 2020. That year, my state's governor declared holiday gathering illegal. Luck for me, I had already met my QAnon friends, so we had out own illegal Friendsgiving. The host took charge of the turkey, the guests took charge of whatever was delegated to them. Very easy. The only problem was making sure we don't get narc'ed on by the host's liberal neighbors. (He lives in a conservative area, but was afraid of a mole in his neighborhood.) The local sheriff was not enforcing the law, but the state troopers were.

So, that meant us not parking nearby. I parked at a closed church a short walk away, next to a maintenance truck. Many people parked at a Walmart or a Home Depot. A few people parked at a hospital. The rest parked I don't know where. Then we all walked over or carpooled. It was the same concept as how I get to my escort conventions, except since they take place in a city, I go by train or Uber there.

The dinner was amazing! The illegal nature of it was the icing on the cake, no pun intended. It felt like a mix of an honored American tradition and the illegal escort conventions I've been going to since 2007. We ate, watched football (the American kind), talked, and lamented Biden's alleged win. Then we went back the same way, walking or carpooling, and drove home.

Other than that year, I had regular Thanksgiving dinners with family, including this year. And despite me being not close to my family, those dinners were generally nice.
