Most of the problems of the world today are the result of our successes. Not our failures.

One example:

If a disease breaks out in some corner of the world it took months for it to spread to other continents. Today a person can get on a jet in Africa and land in Dallas and take viruses with them at will.

Not just technology, but political triumphs enabled this. In the depths of cold war fifties there was less trade and travel between the communist bloc and the rest of the world than there was between countries in the Dark Ages. Communism fell, and today the now fiercely capitalistic China manufactures half of the stuff in the world. Prosperty, ease of travel, the fall of political barriers, resulted in covid being able to repeatidly spread around the world - and to constantly mutate.

I guess with our species it's damn what we do and damn what we don't. Because there's always bad consequences based on everything we try to do even with our best intentions.
